The Duncan & Miller Glass Company
was one of the glass giants in the Tri-State area
of Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Admired by collectors
for their
"Depression Era" glass of the 1920s-1940s, these
factories first began making pressed
and molded utilitarian and decorative wares and novelties in the
19th century.
Once part of the U.S. Glass Company of
Pittsburg, the Duncan factory in Washington, Pa
was known for its quality\ handmade glass from 1893 until 1955,
when fire destroyed the
plant and never again returned to glassmaking. The molds and some
workers shifted to
the U.S. Glass plant in Tiffin, Ohio. While this book focuses on
the prolific years referred
to as the Depression Era, it also includes a valuable prologue on
the early Victorian wares and
an epilogue on the company's contribution to the Tiffin Glass Co.
With over 535 color photographs,
original catalog pages, advertisements, and patent drawings,
this book is sure to delight an collector or dealer of Duncan
glass. The history, detailed captions,
bibliography, index, and value guide will provide the information
needed to begin or advance
a collection of this popular American glassware.
